The story
The land
Salisbury Village sits on the west side of Salisbury, off Jake Alexander Boulevard West near its intersection with Mooresville Road (NC 150). Yates Development planned it in 2004 as a mixed-use site: apartments set back on Castlewood Drive, with retail pads lined up along the boulevard. It was marketed as the first modern mixed-use development in historic Salisbury.
What was built
The residential side opened in 2007 as three-story garden apartments: 192 homes, one to three bedrooms, from about 850 to 1,443 square feet. Along Jake Alexander Boulevard, the front of the site was split into numbered outparcel pads for retail and service users, with a rear drive connecting to the neighboring Biscuitville.
How it leased
In 2009, in the middle of the recession, Discount Tire bought Pad 4 for $690,000. "We've been working with them for some time," Lane Yates told the Salisbury Post, adding that he was glad to close the sale in a challenging economy. The apartments operate today as Salisbury Village at Castlewood.
